Bogra dist council chairman polls stayed
The High Court today stayed the process for holding election to the post of chairman of Bogra district council till June 8. The election was scheduled to be held today.
The bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the stay order following a writ petition filed by Fahima Begum, a ward-member of Mokamtola union parishad of Bogra, challenging the legality of not including her name in the voter list.
In the petition, Fahima also prayed to the HC to stay the process for holding election to the post of chairman of Bogra district council.
The HC also issued a rule asking the Election Commission (EC) and the government to explain in four weeks why not inclusion of the name of the writ petitioner in the voter-list prepared for Bogra district council should not be declared illegal, petitioner’s lawyer Barrister SM Masud Hossain Dolon told The Daily Star.
He also chief election commissioner, LGRD secretary, deputy commissioner and returning officer of Bogra have been made respondents to the rule.
