BDB wants Hasina proposed poll-time national govt
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) today called upon President Abdul Hamid to form a poll-time national government comprised of representatives from ruling and opposition parties for inclusive and participatory general election.
Before the general election of January 5, 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed for an election time national government, Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan secretary general of the party said.
“We urge the president to take an initiative in light with the proposal for the sake of an inclusive and participatory election,” Mannan told journalist after holding talks with the president at his Bangabhaban residence this evening.
After placing a seven-point proposal before the president, Mannan said a specific law is needed to form a strong and independent election commission.
He also urged the president to form an acceptable search committee to appoint competent and independent election commissioners to hold the next general election in a free, fair and credible manner.
As part of the ongoing talks with the president on formation of new election commission, a 17-member delegation of the party met the president and held an elaborate discussion with him.
