10 ‘BNP men’ detained at Nayapaltan
About 10 people who BNP claims are activists of the party were detained from near the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan this morning.
Party sources said 10 of its men, including BNP Office Secretary Taiful Islam, were held around 10:30am when Tarique Rahman’s verdict was being delivered.
Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star they detained around seven people from Nayapaltan as they were trying to gather there.
Side by side, the High Court revoked an earlier acquittal order for BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in a graft case and handed him seven years in jail.
Tarique has been living in London on parole for the last eight years.
