Poachers still active in Sundarbans
Poachers are still active in the Sundarbans as tourists yesterday reported to have seen a tiger that apparently escaped from a trap.
The tiger was sighted by some tourists around Lawodobe area of Chandpai range on Tuesday around 10:00am.
A photo taken by one of the tourists showed its left forelimb containing a rope, presumably from a trap.
Village Tiger Response Team, Forest Tiger Response Team along with Forest Department and WildTeam personnel are currently in search of the tiger.
A trap with a bait has been placed in the area to lure the tiger in.
The Forest Department and WildTeam personnel have also been kept alert to immobilise the tiger on sight.
The team found pugmarks and a track of about 2.5 km left by the tiger.
