PM okays 490 mini-stadia
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured the youth and sports ministry that funds would be allocated for the construction of mini-stadiums in 490 upazillas in a bid to increase the infrastructure and facilities available, said deputy sports minister Arif Khan Joy.
The Prime Minister visited the youth and sports ministry yesterday as part of her regular visit to Bangladesh Secretariat. She spent three hours there to exchange views with state minister Biren Sikder, deputy minister Joy and senior officials of the ministry.
“The Prime Minister instructed us to bring back the glory of the sports and send the athletes to all international competitions after taking necessary preparations,” said Joy. “The Prime Minister said that she would allocate funds within 10 days to build mini-stadiums in all 490 upazilas.”
Joy also informed that the government has a plan to build a 'Sports Village' with all facilities on the bank of the Padma river.
The deputy minister said that he has requested the Prime Minister to provide 15 astro-turf for both football and cricket across the countries.
