Taylor ends Zimbabwe career in style
Zimbabwe Captain Brendan Taylor ended his Zimbabwe chapter in style with a magnificent ton against India at the ICC cricket World Cup 2015 at Auckland today.
Making 138 off 110 balls, Taylor received a standing ovation from the crowd, appraisal from his teammates and laud from India players and fans on the field on his way back.
He debuted against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo on May 2004, the wicketkeeper-batsman played 166 ODI matches for Zimbabwe and finished with 5,120 runs and a highest score of 145 not out with average of 34. In 23 Tests, he finished with 1,493 runs, and a high of 171.
Taylor has signed a three-year Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire, subject to ECB approval, which makes him ineligible to play for Zimbabwe while that contract is in effect.
In Twitter, he said “Sadly after 11 years I have decided to retire from Zimbabwe. My heart will always be close to my team mates and country. Thank you for your support!”
Taylor's availability for Nottinghamshire will be confirmed following the World Cup. He could also go on to qualify for the national team of England.
