Little boy in Barbie commercial for the first time
Times have changed and it is the right time to let the world know that Barbies are not only for girls.
Mattel's latest Barbie commercial features a little boy joined by two female friends, and he couldn't be more excited about playing with the limited-edition Moschino Barbie, reports Mashable. He expresses his love without shame, but rather with unabashed enthusiasm.
"Moschino Barbie is so fierce," he tells the camera, as he places Barbie's purse on her arm.
Moschino Barbie is a collaboration between Mattel and the Italian fashion house. Earlier this year, Jeremy Scott, Moschino's creative director, built an entire spring-summer fashion line inspired by the famous doll.
Within hours of its release last week, the limited-edition Barbie sold out.
Reactions to the commercial, which was posted to YouTube on Oct. 30, have been overwhelmingly positive. Viewers applauded the company — and its adorable mohawked boy model — for breaking gender barriers.
"This makes me so happy for the future generation and I hope it'll catch on and destroy gender stereotypes when it comes to toys," one user wrote on YouTube.
"Like any boy that liked to play with Barbie as a child, I was severely judged. Watching this commercial gives me hope for a future where children can be free to play with whatever they want, not what the society has imposed them to. Thank you for this," another wrote underneath.
"What a relief! Finally a boy in a Barbie advert! I had lots of problems in my childhood as a boy playing with Barbies - Kids should be allowed to like something without being bullied because it is only made for boys/girls!" a user wrote, shortly thereafter.
On Twitter, the response was equally enthusiastic
my mom just told me the "so fierce" little boy in the @MOSCHINO Barbie commercial reminded her of me and I'm so flattered OMG
