Severed head of Jhalakathi AL leader found, five held
Police recovered the severed head of a local leader of Swechchhasebak League, who was allegedly abducted three days ago, from the bank of Bishkhali River at Raguar Char in Kathalia upazila of the district yesterday.
The victim is Masum Shikder, 32, organising secretary of Awrabunia union unit of Swechchhasebak League, and son of late freedom fighter Harun-ur-Rashid of Pashchim Sitki area in the upazila.
On Sunday, Masum's brother filed a general diary with Kathalia Police Station after the victim went missing on Friday, said Additional Superintendent of Police Abdur Rakib.
“Masum was abducted on Friday night when he was returning home from Sitki Bazar,” said his younger brother.
Locals found the severed head on the riverbank in the morning and informed the family members who later identified it as Masum's head.
The head was sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the ASP, adding that police also recovered a severed hand of the victim from the spot.
Five people were detained in this connection, said the police official.
Masum's younger sister Mala Begum said their rivals might have killed him over a piece of disputed land.
