No case filed, detainees released
No case has been filed against any of the parties involved in Tuesday's clash in Mendibag intersection in Sylhet city.
However, Sylhet police lodged a general diary with Kotwali Police Station.
Besides, the 18 people arrested have been released after Shahjalal City College authorities and transport workers reached an agreement at a meeting.
On Tuesday, students of Shahjalal City College and transport workers clashed leaving at least 40 people injured.
According to eyewitnesses, an altercation between two rival factions of students broke out on the campus around 11:30pm. Later, one group came out of the college and went to the nearby microbus stand where they vandalised some microbuses.
Afterwards, transport workers arrived in the spot and locked into a clash with the students.
Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, president of the city unit of Awami League and also former mayor, organised the meeting between Shahjalal City College authorities and transport workers at his house on Tuesday night to resolve the issue, said police.
Principal Enamul Haque Sarder, Sylhet Zila Sarak Paribahan Sramik Union president Selim Ahmed Folik, and district AL joint secretary Nizam Uddin, among others, were present at the meeting.
Talking to The Daily Star, Kamran said, “Both the groups apologised and agreed not to file a case. However, a five-member committee will estimate damages incurred during the clash.”
