The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sent a rejoinder claiming that The Daily Star in a May 8 report had misquoted one of BGMEA's standing committee chairmen, Abdul Ahad Ansary.
Signed by BGMEA Secretary General Ehsan Ul Fattah the rejoinder said The Daily Star had quoted Ansary as saying, “Higher army officials told us that the rescue operation will be over tonight. So we will be able to complete the list tomorrow [today].”
It claimed this part of the published news was "not true and misleading".
It said, “The fact is that, after talking to the Concerned Rescue Officials, Mr Ansary had seemingly felt that rescue operation might not take that long. But it is misquoted and misconstrued…"
The Daily Star has an audio recording of what Ansary said.
We stand by our report.
