Khaleda to visit tornado-hit Brahmanbaria Saturday
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will visit Brahmanbaria on Saturday, a week after a tornado tore through three upazilas of the district, killing 31 people.
The opposition leader took the decision after a meeting with a team of Brahmanbaria district BNP unit at her Gulshan residence Monday night, Maruf Kamal Khan, press secretary of Khaleda told The Daily Star on Tuesday.
During the visit, Khaleda will meet the affected people and distribute relief to them, he added.
Some senior party leaders including Sadeque Hossain Khoka will accompany the BNP chief during her visit.
The 15-munite tornado on Friday lashed 20 villages of Sadar, Bijoynagar and Akhaura upazilas, leaving an eight-km-long trail of destruction.
At least 1,000 families were affected by the twister, which also uprooted around 3,500 trees, ruined crops and destroyed houses.
