Salam Murshedi to become MP of Khulna-4

Awami League aspirant Abdus Salam Murshedi is set to become the lawmaker from Khulna-4 constituency uncontested as his nomination papers were announced legal after scrutiny, the Election Commission said.

The declaration came yesterday, the last day of document verification, and as there was no other contender for the constituency.

The former national-level footballer and former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) submitted the nomination paper to Md Yunus Ali, returning officer for by-election to Khulna-4 constituency on August 26.

Although two other candidates collected nomination forms, they did not submit those to the returning officer.

“After scrutinising the nomination papers I declared his documents legal,” Md Yunus said, adding, “and EC is going to announce that he is set to become an MP uncontested from the constituency”.

“We contacted Bangladesh Bank and other offices concerned to know whether Murshedi is a loan defaulter or an accused of related cases. We got positive reports,” he added.

The Election Commission on August 14 announced the schedule for the by-election to Jatiya Sangsad (102), Khulna -4 constituency fixing September 26 for the voting.

On July 26 last, the parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Amami League MP Mustafa Rashidi Suja.
