Roma Chowdhury shifted to ICU

Freedom fighter Roma Chowdhury was shifted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday.

She was admitted at CMCH in January this year. She was shifted to the ICU on Saturday due to mineral imbalance, Dr Kazi Md Abrar Hasan, associate professor of Medicine Department of CMCH said.

She was also suffering from diarrhea which led to weakness, along with other old-age complications, he said. The doctor added that all necessary treatment has been arranged for her.

Roma Chowdhury -- who was tortured and violated by the Pakistani occupational army at her village in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong during Liberation War, suffered a fractured waist in January this year, and was admitted at CMCH.

She has written 18 books including a chronicle of her days in 1971 named 'Ekattorer Janani'.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited her to Gono Bhaban in 2013. When the PM asked whether she needs anything, she did not take any grants as she made a living by selling her books.
