DNCC's anti-mosquito operation: East West Property Development Ltd fined Tk 2 lakh
Mobile courts of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today fined East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd, a concern of Bashundhara Group, Tk two lakh as they found Aedes mosquito larvae at an under construction building in Gulshan-2 in Dhaka on the first day of an eight-day combing operation.
During the drives, the mobile courts also sentenced Md Sayeed Hossain, an engineer of Western Engineering Pvt Ltd, to three months in jail for the same reason in the same area, said a press release issued by the DNCC.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam and Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tazul Islam jointly inspected the combing operation to make the efforts successful after inaugurating the drive from Gulshan-2 Shahabuddin Park.
Several mobile courts of the DNCC conducted the drives at all 54 wards in 10 zones of the city corporation as part of the initiative to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito. The drives will be continued till July 19.
Urging everyone to keep their homes clean and to destroy all possible sources of Aedes mosquitoes, DNCC Mayor Atiqul said it is possible to tackle dengue and Chikungunya with collective efforts of everyone.
He said Bangladesh is already facing the coronavirus pandemic, and DNCC inaugurated the combing operation so that deaths from dengue can be avoided.
Urging everyone to clean stagnant water every three days in a week, the mayor said everyone will have to clean flower pots, plastic containers or any other spot where water can remain stagnant.
Responding to a question, the mayor said they will take action against both government and private buildings authorities, if mosquito breeding grounds are found.
LGRD Minister Tazul Islam, who inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, said all including local councillors will have to help the mayor in this regard, added the release.
Meanwhile, several mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today imposed fines worth around Tk 5 lakh for finding Aedes mosquito larvae, keeping shops open and creating obstacles in vehicular movement.
Six zonal executive officers of the DSCC and two executive magistrates, who led the drives, visited 216 buildings in different parts of the DSCC areas and found Aedes mosquito larvae in 20 buildings.
They filed 22 cases against the owners.
