Shams seeks fresh bail in DSA case
Lawyers representing Samsuzzaman Shams, the Prothom Alo reporter sent to jail in a DSA case, today filed a petition with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka seeking bail in the case.
"We filed a bail petition with the court. It can be learned after 12:00pm when the hearing on it will be held," Prashanta Kumar Karmoker, a lawyer for Shams, told The Daily Star this morning.
This is the second time that Shams is seeking bail in the case. He was denied bail when he was produced before the court on Thursday, after a case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act with Ramna Police Station.
Prothom Alo's editor and publisher, Matiur Rahman, an unnamed photographer and other unnamed people were also accused in the case filed with Ramna Police Station.
On Wednesday, Shams was picked up from his home in Savar by law enforcers wearing plainclothes around 4:00am, triggering widespread criticism.
He was detained less than two hours after a Jubo League leader filed a DSA case with Tejgaon Police Station.
