8 workers injured in Narayanganj chemical factory fire
Eight workers of a chemical factory were burnt as a fire broke out in the establishment in Roopganj upazila of Narayanganj last night.
The injured have been identified as Bayazid, Rokon, Khademul, Sajib, Ripon, Mehedi, Rasel, and Akalu, reports our local correspondent quoting Tanharul Islam, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense of Narayanganj-2.
They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The fire broke out at Lily Chemical Co. in Golakandail area in the upazila around 10 last night. Fire service received the news around 10:22pm, Tanharul said adding that three units rushed to the spot and managed to bring it under control around midnight.
The injured had been rescued and sent to Dhaka by their co-workers before the firefighters arrived, he added.
"According to the others workers, the injuries of the eight victims are not serious," the official also said.
However, the reason behind the onset and extent of damage of the fire were yet to be known. Details will be revealed after investigation, he added.
