ACC files charge sheets in 8 cases
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) here submitted charge sheets in eight cases filed against 15 people of different government offices on charge of embezzlement of funds and foodgrains in three districts under Rangpur division.
At a press briefing on Monday noon at Rangpur ACC office, the officials said, three Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited officials at Mahimaganj under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district embezzled Tk 1,32,13,225 from the mill in six years.
Siddique Ali, former manager (admin) lodged a case in this connection with ACC on 14 July, 2010.
After investigation, Nur-e-Alam, assistant director at ACC Rangpur office, however, found that Md. Abdullah, assistant accounts officer, Abul Foyez, former manager and deputy general manager and Rafiqul Islam, former accounts assistant of the sugar mill embezzled Tk 1,25,51,685 from the mill.
ACC submitted charge sheet in six cases against them with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Gaibandha on 15 April 2013.
In Kurigram, AKM Aminur Islam, education officer of Kurigram Sadar upazila, lodged a case on July 7, 2011 with ACC Rangpur office against Maidul Islam Shuvo, Abu Salek, Md. Adit Rochi, Md. Asaduddaula, assistant teachers of Goalpuri Government Primary School in Kurigram Sadar upazila, Lal Mian, MLSS of the same school, Abul Hossain, an officer of Sonali Bank Kurigram branch and Rezaul Karim, another officer of the same bank.
In the case, he said, the six people at first took away nine cheques from his office in absence of him and drew Tk 13,13,691 with the help of Abul Hossain and Rezaul Karim, two officers of Sonali Bank Kurigram branch and embezzled the amount.
After investigation, the ACC submitted charge sheet against them on 4 April, 2013.
At Gangachhara, 5 metric tonnes of foodgrains of Food for Work project were embezzled at Alambiditar union under Gangachhara upazila in Rangpur district.
Later, Md. Zahirul Huda, deputy director of ACC Rangpur office, lodged a case against seven people including the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Gangachhara on 27 July, 2011.
After thorough investigation, Zahirul Huda submitted the charge sheet on May 5 against six people dropping Abu Nochor Md. Abdullah, former UNO of Gangachhara upazila.
The charge sheeted accused are AKM Mizanur Rahman, former project implementation officer (PIO) of Gangachhara Sadar upazila, Asgar Ali, president of the project, Mahatab Uddin, secretary of the project, Safar Uddin, Abul Kashem and Monwara Begum, members of the project committee.
