Petition for Koko's exemption from court appearance
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's younger son Arafat Rahman Koko yesterday petitioned the trial court to exempt him from appearing in person at trial proceedings in Gatco corruption case on health grounds.
Koko's counsel barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed the petition under Section 540 A (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The court is likely to hear the petition today, court sources said.
Meantime, Khaleda's elder son and the BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman may also file a petition today seeking exemption from appearing at court in person in connection with a Tk 21 crore bribery case involving the murder of a Bashundha director, said the sources.
Khaleda and Koko were arrested at their Dhaka cantonment residence on September 3 last year while Tarique was arrested on March 7 the same year.
