Hold national election before local govt polls
Central leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) at their district conference in Dianajpur yesterday urged the caretaker government to hold national election before local government polls.
Urging the government to create congenial atmosphere for indoor politics, they said state of emergency should be lifted immediately.
A free, fair and credible election under the present caretaker government should be done according to the roadmap of the Election Commission, they said at the 8th district conference of CPB held at Dinajpur Lok Bhaban.
National election should be held before local government polls as the constitution gives the caretaker government responsibility to hold a credible election with participation of all the political parties.
The caretaker government has completely failed to control price hike of daily essentials including rice and edible oil while political leaders are being harassed by filing corruption cases, they said.
The speakers, however, appreciated the caretaker government for their efforts in producing bumper Boro production which is now helping to strengthen rural economy as the farmers are getting fair prices of their crops.
Criticising the 2008-09 fiscal year budget of the present caretaker government, they termed it as 'rich people's budget' that deprived the majority people who are bellow poverty level.
They also alleged that the budget is the prescription for foreign investors they are making rooms for the foreign traders underestimating the interests of the country.
CPB General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim attended as chief guest at the meeting presided over by Md Altaf Hossain.
Thousands of workers and supporters from all 13 upazilas of the district attended.
