Elephants trample man to death
Wild elephants trampled a man to death in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Md Shahjahan Mollah, 28, son of Joynal Mollah, hailing from East Mehendi village under Rajoir thana of Madaripur district.
According to police, Shahjahan was working as a painter at an under-construction community centre situated at the foot of some hills in Banigram village under Kalipur union of Banshkhali Police Station.
At about 1:00am, a herd of about eight to ten elephants came down from the hills and was roaming around the field behind the building where Shahjahan was working.
Quoting co-workers of the deceased, Al Amin , sub-inspector of Banshkhali Police Station, said curious, Shahjahan walked close to the herd to have a closer look at the wild animals.
Sensing Shahjahan's presence, the wild animals chased him and trampled him to death, he added.
