Acting dead in protest
In a powerful show of protest against the recent deaths in an Ashulia garment factory fire, 111 persons wearing shrouds to resemble corpses lied down before BGMEA Bhaban in the capital's Karwan Bazar yesterday.
Others at the “Shob Shomabesh†(rally of dead bodies) held placards which read “Business cannot mean murder†and “Cheap labour does not mean cheap lifeâ€.
The silent and unique protest was organised by a grassroots level movement of activists, journalists, friends and people who call themselves Magic Movement.
The aim was to highlight the failure and unwillingness of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and garment factory owners to ensure workers' safety.
