4 hurt as JCD men clash at CU
Four activists were injured in a clash between two groups of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Chittagong University (CU) Unit on the university campus in the port city yesterday.
The injured activists are CU Chhatra Dal President Aminul Islam Touhid, 30; Abdullah Al Noman, 23; Rupok Mia, 24, a Masters student of Political Science department and Pavel Sheikh, 24, Masters student of Accounting and Information Systems. They were given first aid at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Saifuddin Salam Mithu, CU Chaatra Dal general secretary, said a group led by Nur Huda Sohel, former deputy publication secretary, made the attack when they were at a meeting in front of CU School and College campus around 3:30pm.
However, Sohel denied his involvement in the attack. He said yesterday he was with his uncle at a hospital all day long and blamed Touhid for making up such stories for drawing media and party leaders' attention.
Rafiqul Islam, in charge of CU Police Box, said after being informed they rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.
Md Sirjuddoulah, CU proctor, said they would investigate the matter and punish the culprits.
