5 held over Jessore schoolboy killing
Police arrested five men on Tuesday night in connection with the killing of a 10-year-old schoolboy for ransom in Chowgachha upazila, Jessore a day before.
The detainees confessed to their involvement in the murder, said Mohsin Ali, sub-inspector of Chowgachha Police Station.
He said police made the arrest of Billal Hossain of Garibpur village in Jessore Medical College area after tracking down the mobile phone number (01739-987821) which the criminals used to call the victim's father and demand Tk 5 lakh in ransom Monday afternoon.
The four other men were held on information from Billal. They were Shyamol Hossain Khokon and Ashraful Islam Polin of Huda Fotepur village, Amol Kumer Mondol of Garibpur Kalitala village, and Shahin of Jahangirpur village of the upazila.
Sourav Saha, a class IV student at Garibpur Government Primary School, was kidnapped on Monday. His body was found in a jute field near the school the next day.
The criminals killed Sourav, as his father Swapan Saha failed to pay the ransom and informed police of the matter.
Meanwhile, Jessore's Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamrul Ahsan, Chowgachha Upazila Chairman SM Habibur Rahman, and Chowgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Delowar Hossain Mattobbor visited the victim's house in Garibpur village.
