Boy killed by 'friends'

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) recovered the decomposed body of a college student, killed allegedly by some of his friends eight days ago, from a sewer in the city's Sheroil Mothpukur area yesterday.
The victim is Nadimuzzaman Saad, first year student of Rajshahi Model School and College, and son of Aminul Islam, a wealthy businessman of Laxmipur area.
The Rab members also arrested three students of Barendra College who, they said, confessed to their links in the murder and showed location of Saad's body in the sewer covered with sand.
The arrested are Masud Ibn Ali alias Shawan of Chapainwabganj, Kaysar Ahmed Anik of Tikapara, and Rashedul Islam Bipu of Ramchandrapur Bashar Road in Rajshahi city.
Lt BM Nur Mohammad, assistant director of Rab-5, said the arrestees confessed in the primary interrogation that Anik called Saad out of home on the evening of January 17 in the name of a picnic.
A group of five persons strangulated and slaughtered the victim at a students' mess in Sheroil Mothpukur area the next morning, using a blanket and unconventional sharp weapons after feeding him drugs. They dumped the body into the sewer on the following night.
Quoting the arrestees, the Rab official also said the murder was committed mainly for rivalry and for ransom from the victim's family.
Saad's family members, however, said no one demanded of them any ransom.
