Teacher sued for corporeal punishment

A teacher has been sued on charge of giving corporeal punishment to Marufa Khatun, a class two student of Maheshwarpur Registered Primary School in Koira upazila.
Victim's father Faizur Rahman Gazi of Maheshwarpur village in the upazila filed the case with Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in the district on Tuesday.
The court ordered the officer in-charge of Koira police station to investigate into the allegation and take stern action against the teacher as per the probe report.
According to the plaintiff, Ranjita Bala beat up Marufa mercilessly with wooden stick for not taking lessons properly.
Later, Marufa was admitted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries in hands and back, said Gazi.
The teacher remained absent since the incident, said Upazila Chairman GM Mohsin Reza and also president of the school's managing committee.
