Eight killed in road crashes
Eight people were killed and 20 others injured in road accidents in Panchagarh, Narsingdi, Dinajpur and Joypurhat districts yesterday.
In Narsingdi, two buses collided head-on in Raipura upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 2:30pm, killing three people and injuring 20 others.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The injured were sent to different hospitals.
After the accident, locals barricaded the highway, causing huge tailback on both sides of the road.
In Panchagarh, three people were killed when a bus rammed their motorcycle in Tentulia upazila in the morning, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
Police said the accident occurred around 10:00am at Khoykhot village when a bus hit the motorcycle.
Motorcycle riders--Rasel, 27, of Chhotodap village and Nohid, 26, of Nalpukhuri village in Atwary upazila of Panchagarh, and Faruk, 35, of Sirajganj district--died instantly.
Police seized the bus.
Meanwhile, two people were killed in two road accidents in Dinajpur and Joypurhat yesterday, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
The victims are Rezaul Haque 38, an officer of RDRS, Bangladesh and Tuhin Hossain, 9, son of Azizul Islam of Paschim Amutra village of Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat.
Police said Rezaul died on the spot when a bus hit his motorcycle at Champatoli of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur around 10.30am.
In another accident, a schoolboy, Tuhin, was killed before Akkelpur upazila complex in the afternoon as a truck hit his bicycle from behind. .
Locals caught the driver and handed over him to police.
