3,008 SSC students get DBBL scholarships
Dutch-Bangla Bank (DBBL), under its social cause programme, yesterday awarded scholarships to 3,008 students passing SSC examination in 2011.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, present as the chief and special guests respectively, handed over the scholarships at a programme at Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in the city's Mipur.
DBBL Board of Directors Executive Committee Chairman Sayem Ahmed presided over the programme where DBBL Managing Director KS Tabrez was present.
Muhith lauded the scholarship programme, terming it a unique example of helping the country's meritorious and needy students.
He also appreciated DBBL's continuous humanitarian and welfare activities and hoped that all corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programmes for the benefit of society.
Sayem said 90 percent of the scholarships are awarded to students coming from rural areas.
DBBL is playing a pioneering role in implementing various social and philanthropic activities in fields like education, healthcare, human resource development and conservation of forests, he added.
