SC stays Pintu's bail

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed till June 12 a High Court order that granted bail to former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu in a case filed in connection with the Pilkhana carnage.
Chamber Judge of Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the government, seeking stay on the HC order.
The judge also asked the government to file a regular leave-to-appeal petition with the court against the HC order by June 12.
The HC on June 7 granted ad-interim bail to Pintu for six months in the case.
Police filed the case with Lalbagh Police Station on February 28, 2009 in connection with the February 25-26 BDR carnage in Pilkhana headquarters in 2009.
Pintu was arrested in this connection on June 1 the same year.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam appeared for the government, while Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain argued for Pintu.
