Rabindra Sangeet Albums by Chakma Raja Devasish Roy
The Chakma royal family celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore last Saturday. The event was held at the Rajbari Club in the hilly town of Rangamati.
Chief of Chakma Circle, Raja Devasish Roy, arranged the programme, where district administration officials, cultural activists and journalists were present.
The event also witnessed the launch of audio CDs featuring instrumental renditions of Rabindra Sangeet by the Chakma Raja. He has played the tunes of familiar Rabindra Sangeet on mouth organ.
Delivering the welcome address, the Raja said that the Chakma royal family had a close relationship with Rabindranath Tagore and his family. Roy's family members, including his mother Binita Roy and father Tridip Roy, as well as his grandparents, loved Rabindra Sangeet.
About Rabindranath, the Chakma Raja said that the poet lives in the hearts of people for his outstanding literary contribution.
“I tried my level best to demonstrate the unique beauty of Rabindra Sangeet through mouth organ, and I will try to do even better in the days to come,” Devasish Roy said.
Nandit Roy, uncle of the Raja, performed Rabindra Sangeet at the programme.
Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Rangamati unit, organised a five-day programme to mark Rabindra Jayanti from May 8 to 12.
Dipanker Talukder, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, inaugurated the Rabindra Jayanti Utshab at district Shilpakala Academy.
A painting competition with Tagore as the subject, recitation of Tagore poetry and a film festival was organised during the five-day event.
The district administration also organised a discussion and cultural function on 'Tagore's life' at Pourasabha hall room to mark Rabindra Jayanti on May 8.
