Form special tribunal to try war criminals

Speakers tell discussion

Speakers at a discussion yesterday urged people from all walks of life to get united anld launch mass movement for the trial of the war criminals.
They also called upon the government to try the war criminals by forming a special tribunal.
The discussion titled 'Spirit of the liberation war and trial of the war criminals' was organised by Democratic Leftist Alliance at the National Press Club in the city.
Presided over by comrade Saiful Haque, coordinator of Democratic Leftist Alliance, the meeting was addressed by Justice Ghulam Rabbani, Anu Muhammad of Jahangirnagar University, Akmal Hossein of Dhaka University, Dr Rashid-e Mahbub, comrade Abdullah, Tipu Biswas, and Advocate Abdus Salam.
"The government should start the process of trial of the war criminals who were against the birth of this country and who killed lakhs of people," said Justice Rabbani.
He urged the government to form a special tribunal and try the war criminals.
Anu Muhammad said trial of the war criminals could not be held earlier due to political and economic policy of the past political governments.
"Freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to build a corruption-free and secular country," he added.
Prof Akmal Hossein said the country was liberated at the cost of the lives of the freedom fighters whose dreams are not fulfilled yet.
"We even could not try the war criminals who killed our freedom fighters," lamented Akmal.
