Port City Celebrates Life with The Daily Star
Eminent personalities, socio-cultural activists and leaders of various communities and professions of the port city were in for a musical treat on March 23 with some outstanding classical music renditions, dance performances and a variety of patriotic Bangla songs.
Graceful Kathak dancer Munmun Ahmed, Fahmida Nabi with her fascinating dulcet voice and noted classical vocalist of the port city Swarnamoy Chakraborty gave remarkable performances before the Chittagong audience.
The Daily Star, the country's premier English daily, in association with Standard Chattered Bank arranged the programme titled 'Celebrating Life' at Chittagong Club.
Mahfuz Anam, the editor of the daily welcomed the audience.
Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Head of Corporate Affaires, Standard Chattered Bank; Rafi Hossain, coordinator of 'Celebrating Life' also editor of Star Insight and AKM Raisul Huq Bahar,Chittagong Bureau Chief of the daily were also present on the occasion.
Bhaswar Bandopadhaya emceed the programme.
Mahfuz Anam in his welcome speech said, “The Daily Star wants to highlight the diversity and uniqueness of life in Bangladesh as well as its natural splendour through 'Celebrating Life'.”
Swarnamoy Chakraborty started the programme with a rendition of Raga Bhimpalashri, followed by a thumri. Pandit Bijan Chowdhury accompanied him on the tabla.
Bhaswar recited “Ami Banglar Gaan Gai”, written by Pratul Mukherjee.
Munmun Ahmed started her dance performances with “Anjali Laho Mor”, a familiar Nazrul Sangeet. Later, she gave a Kathak performance.
Firoz Khan, Md Shoyeb, Motiyar Rahman, Zakir Hossain accompanied her on the sitar, vocals, sarangi and tabla respectively,
The evening wrapped up with the performances of Fahmida Nabi and her troupe. Her repertoire included “Bangla Ke Bhalobeshe”, “Tumi Shaat Shagor”, “O Amar Desher Mati” and “Lukochuri, Lukochuri Golpo”.
