Initiating a unified theatre movement, Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) started its journey on November 29, 1980. Over the last 30 years BGTF has established itself as an umbrella organisation for all theatre activists around the country. The first BGTF executive committee was formed under the leadership of Ramendu Majumdar, who is now the ITI worldwide president. The federation celebrated its 30th anniversary through a four-day programme at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, from November 26 to 29. The last day's programme began with a rally from the epicentre of theatre activities, Mahila Shamity, to the new hub Shilpakala Academy. Other segments of the closing programme were a reception for Ekushey Padak recipient theatre personalities and recalling activists who had passed away. Veteran theatre activist Mamunur Rashid delivered the anniversary memorial lecture that highlighted the federation's history, early struggles, political stand, hopes and dreams. Dance organisations Nrityadhara, Nrityabhumi and Nrityanchal staged performances on the occasion. Text: Jamil Mahmud. Photo: Mumit M.
