JCD man stabbed at Sust
An activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was stabbed allegedly by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League men on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) yesterday.
Critically injured Ashiqur Rahman Ayon has been admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
Witnesses said, Ashiqur was attacked by the BCL group numbering about 7 to 8 at about 11:45am as he came out of the class at the E building on the campus.
They stabbed Ashique with sharp weapons inflicting serious injuries on his shoulder and head. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.
The incident was a sequel to a previous enmity, according to sources. Ashique is a student of final semester, Honours fourth year at Petroleum and Geo Resource Department.
Meanwhile, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Sylhet Md Amir Uddin yesterday afternoon rejected the bail prayers of two JCD leaders and ordered to send them to jail hajat after they surrendered in a police assault case.
They are former president of Sylhet Government College unit JCD Abdur Rakib Chowdhury and district JCD member Anwar Hossain Manik alias Kala Manik.
Court sources said the case was filed on May 6 after rival factions of JCD and BNP in the city locked in an armed clash and police lobbed tear shells to bring the situation under control.
Several gunshots were fired during the clash that turned the city's Zindabazar and adjoining areas into a battlefield for hours. Businessmen put theirs shutters down while ten policemen sustained injuries on the day.
Later, police filed a case accusing over a hundred BNP and JCD men.
The district and city JCD took out a procession in the city immediately after the two JCD leaders were sent to jail yesterday.
