Trescothick on mend
Somerset opener Marcus Trescothick is expected to resume training for the new county season before Christmas after undergoing surgery on his left foot.
The England left-hander had a tendon repaired and a bone spur removed from the fifth metatarsal.
He said: "I was struggling with the injury throughout the summer, hopefully this will resolve the problem."
Trescothick, 31, scored 1,000 runs in a championship season for the first time as Somerset won the Division Two title.
His total of 1,315 runs, at an average of just over 62, was instrumental in helping Somerset return to the top flight for the first time since 2002.
Trescothick, who returned from a stress-related illness to play for Somerset last season, has been rewarded with a benefit year in 2008.
But his England career remains on hold after he opted to make himself unavailable for the winter tours to Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
