Rain paralyses life in Barisal division
Continuous downpour for the last couple of days has paralysed normal life in the districts of Barisal division.
Barisal river port authority yesterday stopped plying of motor launches having less than 65 feet length due to inclement weather and rough river condition.
Small and ML type water transports have been asked not to leave terminals and fishing boats advised to take safe shelter till improvement of the weather.
Meanwhile, most areas of Patuakhali town have gone under water due to waterlogging after the downpour.
Road communications with Kuakata tourist zone disrupted as ferry gangways went under water and road development and repairing works came to a halt.
People living in different chars, riverbanks and coastal areas became stranded or marooned due to rise in water level of the sea and rivers and unusual tide.
Sudhir Chandra Shil, deputy director of DAE and farmers in the region said this unusual downpour during late monsoon will hamper Aman cultivation because of waterlogging in croplands.
