Man held with 6kg gold at Dhaka airport
Custom intelligence officials arrested a passenger along with six gold bars weighing six kilograms from a Malaysian Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.
Abdur Razzak, 54, was arrested with the gold bars worth Tk 2.70 crore when he was crossing the green channel in a wheelchair, said Customs Intelligence inspector Abdul Matin.
The customs officials found the gold after reaching his body, the official said.
The Malaysian Airlines flight, MH102, carrying Razzak landed at the airport around 11:30am, said Ayasha Akter, assistant director of customs intelligence.
In primary interrogation, Razzak informed that he was not the owner of the gold but carrying the bars to hand it over to an unidentified person outside the airport, Matin said.
“We will try to trace the smugglers’ syndicate,” the inspector said.
