Main suspect confesses to looting Sonali Bank
Yusuf Munsi, nicknamed Sohel, confessed to looting a Sonali Bank branch in Kishoreganj in his statement yesterday to a judicial magistrate.
Sohel, also known as Habibur Rahman, was the main accused in a case involving a Tk 16.4 crore robbery at the state bank's principal branch in Kishoreganj town.
Judicial Magistrate Alaul Akbar recorded Sohel's statement after Rajib Kumer Dev, the investigation officer of the case, produced him in court.
Sonali BankSohel looted the cash by digging a tunnel between a residential tin-roofed house and the vault of the Sonali Bank branch.
Sohel's uncle-in-law Siraj Uddin Bhuiyan persuaded him to do so, a source said quoting Sohel's statement.
Sohel was sent to jail.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested Sohel and his brother Idris Munsi on January 28, and other accused in separate raids later.
