After completion of four regional rounds in Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi, the stage of Rupchanda-Star Lifestyle Super Chef 2014 was set for the penultimate regional round in Chittagong at K Square, GEC Circle, Chittagong on 7 June 2014.
Cooking is an art and for the one with the prowess in the kitchen, it is a fulfilling experience; 'therapeutic' even as many have claimed. The large crowd that thronged the venue was testament to the passion people share in preparing delectable dishes and serving them on the table for others to enjoy.
Chittagong is synonymous to some of the most popular delicacies the rich culinary tradition of this country has to offer. From the shutki (dried fish) to the amazing pomfret and koral, this seaside city has enriched the chapter on salt-water delicacies of Bangladesh. However, let's not take anything away from the tantalising beef preparations, the famed 'mejban beef' that they have.
Over the past month the Rupchanda-Star Lifestyle team has ventured around divisional headquarters in search of Superchef 2014. However, the participation at the event has been far and wide with the Chittagong round having contestants even from Cox's Bazar .
After waiting in the long queues participants were asked to set their dishes for the judging panel to evaluate.
Celebrity food critics along with popular regional food connoisseurs enthusiastically tasted the food and graded them in different categories. A quickfire MCQ test followed. After meticulous scrutiny four contestants were selected from a total of 136 for the grand finale to be held in Dhaka.
Food connoisseurs Shawkat Osman and Shaheda Yeasmin, with regional representation by Jinat Azam, President, Ladies' Club, Chittagong, Daisy Moudud, Senior Subeditor, The Daily Purbakone and Rowshan Ara Begum, food critic comprised the panel of esteemed judges.
Rupchanda-Star Lifestyle Super Chef 2014 will next move on to the final regional round in Dhaka on 21 June, 2014.
