Let your lips do the talking!
What do you notice when talking to a woman for the first time? Statistics say it's usually the lips. The most essential human connection is established via lips, so it is no wonder that lips play a vital role in one's appearance.
We pout, preen, argue, purse, kiss, laugh and do so much more with our lively, lovely lips! And adorning them with lipstick is only the beginning.
To the world it might be just a simple swipe of colour but ask any woman about the importance of lipsticks and chances are she will most likely wax lyrical about its magic!
Most women own at least eight to ten lipsticks in her vanity, and they range from soft pinks to nudes to bright reds. As much fun wearing lipsticks can be, at times matching the shade of lipstick with the colour of an outfit can be downright confusing. A tricky colour puzzles most women more often than not.
While it is always an option to just swipe on a colour and go, a true fashionista knows that the right shade of lipstick can make or break an outfit.
So without further ado let's look at the breakdown of some tricky colours and their corresponding lipstick shades!
Shades of blue
The colour blue is a unique hue that can be both soothing as well as exciting. For cool-toned blues such as indigo and Persian, powdery, soft shades of pink look the best. A swipe of softly smudged kohl on the eyes paired with blush matching the lipstick shade will bring the whole look together.
For warm shades of blue such as navy, sapphire and midnight, nudes and browns work really well. For in-between shades such as Tiffany blue, cornflower and baby blue, dirty, dusty pinks are the best. Don't forget a pinky/peachy blush!
Shades of blue that radiate warmth beget eye makeup that is subtle yet impactful. A smoky eye complements a nude mouth beautifully. Cooler shades look best with eyes softly shaded with greys and cool-toned taupes and browns.
Shades of green
A soothing colour, green can be anything you want it to be. For soft, warm shades such as chartreuse, moss, pear and pistachio, shades of brown and orangey reds look beautiful.
These colours look best when the eyes are left bare, save for a touch of creamy beige/peach shadow and lots of mascara.
For slightly darker hues such as olive and basil green, corals and oranges liven up the face (a swipe of brown eyeliner pairs well with it).
For darker greens such as emerald and shamrock bold reds work the best. Don't forget blush in a coordinating shade; bold colours tend to wash out one's complexion unless balanced with colour on the cheeks.
Shades of yellow
A most cheerful colour, yellow in every avatar is bright and fresh. Softer hues such as butter and lemon pair perfectly with sweet soft pinks. Cheeks that are subtly highlighted with creamy shimmer will bring freshness and sparkle to the face.
Canary and corn yellow can take on lip colours with orange undertones. Deeper, bolder shades such as marigold and sunset are best complemented by deep, bright reds and brownish nudes. Eyes can be done in shades of dark brown, complete with black eyeliner and lots of mascara.
Shades of purple
Soft, light shades such as lilac and lavender look the best when paired with dusty pinks. Pink cheeks and long, flirty lashes will give youthfulness and glow.
Slightly deeper shades such as magenta and mulberry can take on berry shades of lip colours. Lastly, deep hues such as amethyst and sangria look the best with maroons and deep reds. In case of these colours, you want to keep the eyes relatively simple with a soft halo of brown eyeshadow, black liner and mascara. However, cheekbones must be enhanced by contouring and highlighting, complete with a blush in pinkish hues. Let the jewel tones shine!
