Bangles – an indispensable ornament for Bangladeshi women
It is quite clearly evident that the appeal of bangles has in fact transcended through time, changing only in forms and designs. Modern bangles come in a diverse range of patterns. Made from gold, diamond, 'polki' and shaped in the form of 'konkons', 'churs', tennis bracelets or oval bracelets, bangles can easily be paired with both traditional and western outfits.
Every occasion demands a different set of bangles. Students and young professionals prefer lighter bangles or bracelets carrying a combination of diamonds and pearls. At more festive occasions, such as weddings, they fancy the traditional, gold-based bangles.
Older women prefer heavier sets of gold bangles or fusion items, coloured gems, and diamonds based on their inclination and personalities.
In an incessantly changing world, alterations are the only constant. Similarly, even the traditional designs for bangles undergo some changes every year and this season is no different.
So what should a woman consider while selecting her precious sets this year?
Avi Roy, Sales Director of Jarwa House, one of the leading jewellers in town, has some answers. "Keeping in mind the need for something different among today's women, and combining it with our innovative fervour, this year, we have introduced a diverse mix of modern and traditional bangles. Our observation regarding women's increased interest towards fusion materials have encouraged us to be more creative and fashion unique bangles that contain various combinations of gold, 'polki', diamond, colour stones, and navratans," he says.
In modern-day Bangladesh, especially in the urban regions, every season is a wedding season. As bangles take a special place in wedding ceremonies, it is only natural that a woman wonders what she should opt for this year.
Avi Roy answers. "Navratan bangles are becoming widely popular for Mehendis. During the weddings and receptions, brides prefer diamonds and gold-laden churs fused with emeralds. For those with a more off-beat taste, there are gold bangles merged with diamonds and sapphire. The elderly go for quality and weight, which is why they favour traditional gold bangles, often with a little fusion."
Having said enough on the fashion aspect, we must also agree that bangles are much more than just - ornaments. Gold bangles are a valuable asset, which is passed down between generations. The best thing about gold bangles is that they can be exchanged any time, with any jeweller, be it for cash or other jewellry.
So ladies, have no fear and do not hold back from getting your favoured set of bangles from the jeweller this year!
