Relocate unplanned and risky factories
Various small factories (containing inflammable objects such as chemicals and paper) have been haphazardly set up in many places of Dhaka especially in the old city, without following any kind of law or safety measures thus enhancing the risk of accidents. Most of the time, these factories operate 24/7 and contribute to the sound and air pollution around that particular area. Recently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a programme on May Day urged entrepreneurs to set up industries in designated economic zones so that her government can ensure utility facilities for smooth functioning of these industries. It is a commendable call and deserves appreciation. The government should now direct the concerned officials to take necessary measures to relocate the unplanned, risky factories from residential areas to their designated places.
