I read with great interest the above-mentioned opinion piece published in this daily on March 10. It touched on a critical demographic shift in the world and the scopes of care-giving jobs it will create in countries like Bangladesh. Most industrial societies are going through this ageing of populations. However, the article did not explain if such a need will be created in Bangladesh as well. As Bangladesh industrialises and urbanises quickly with the concurrent increase in the life expectancy of its population, a similar demand for care giving is impending in its large cities. Bangladesh needs to prepare for this.
