Khoka now free to walk out of jail
BNP Vice-Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka secured six-month bail from the High Court today in three cases including one for killing sub-inspector Md Shahjahan in May last year.
With the HC bail order, there is now no legal bar to Khoka's release from jail, barrister Saqeb Mahbub, a lawyer of Khoka, told The Daily Star.
Earlier Khoka secured bail from the HC in six other cases filed over arson and vandalism charges.
A HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed granted the bail today after holding hearing on three separate bail petitions filed by Khoka challenging a lower court's rejection order.
On February 10, a Dhaka court rejected the BNP leader's bail petitions in the cases.
Of the three cases, Khoka was shown arrested in a case filed for killing Shahjahan during the May 5 mayhem in Motijheel centring the Hefajat-e Islam rally.
He was also shown arrested in the two other cases filed for attempting to murder cops by throwing cocktails, vandalising vehicles and preventing law enforcers from discharging their duties in the capital's Jatrabari area in November and December.
