Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today asked deputy commissioners (DCs) to take initiatives to keep prices of daily essentials within the buying capacity of common people throughout the year.
Not only in Ramadan, prices of the daily commodities need to be kept stable all over the year, the minister said.
The direction came during a discussion on the second day of the three-day DC conference at Secretariat in the capital.
On inauguration day of the conference, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the DCs to strictly prevent any attempts at hiking the prices of essentials through creating an artificial crisis of goods during Ramadan.
The three-day annual conference began at the Prime Minister's Office in the capital seeking power to remove elected Union Parishad chairmen and members found involved in illegal and anti-people activities.
The conference will continue till tomorrow.
