'Kala' Babu killed in ‘gunfight’ with DB
Shah Alam Khandakar alias Kala Babu, the prime accused in the Moghbazar triple murder case, was killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Detective Branch of police in Dhaka early today.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said criminals opened fire at a team of DB police when they were conducting a raid in Moghbazar Wireless Gate area around 4:00am.
In retaliation, police fired several rounds of bullets triggering a “gun battle”, the DC said.
Kala Babu came in the line of fire and suffered bullet wounds, he added.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The law enforcers detained two of his associates and recovered a pistol loaded with three bullets from the scene.
Two DB personnel also sustained injuries during the gunfight, DC Masudur said.
On August 28, criminals gunned down three people including a woman while injuring another at a house in Sonalibagh area of Moghbazar on August 28 over illegal toll and land dispute.
The three deceased were Mohammad Munna, 18, Billal Hossain, 20, and Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28.
Ranu's brother Hridoy, 20, who was shot by the criminal, received his treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Kala Chan, another brother of Ranu, filed a case in connection with the triple-murder with Ramna Police Station, accusing fifteen people including Babu.
