Joj Mia's sister accuses 2 CID officers of harassing him
The sister of petty criminal Joj Mia, who was falsely implicated in the August 21 grenade attack cases, testified before a Dhaka court yesterday, accusing two former CID officials of harassing her brother.
Khorsheda Akhter, the 103rd prosecution witness in the two cases, gave her deposition before Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 for an hour.
Her mother Jobeda Khatun testified before the court on September 8.
Khorsheda was cross-examined by the counsels of several accused.
The Criminal Investigation Department arrested Joj Mia at his home in Senbagh of Noakhali on June 10, 2005, and brought him to Dhaka the same day.
The two CID officials, Abdur Rashid and Ruhul Amin, whose names were mentioned by Khorsheda, are charged with derailing the probe in the cases.
“I and my mother Jobeda Khatun asked them why they arrested him, but they did not give any answer,” she said in her testimony.
Several days later, Senbagh police visited her mother, and asked her to come to Dhaka, she said. But when they arrived in Dhaka, they faced difficulties in getting information about Joj Mia's whereabouts. Finally they met him at Kashimpur prison in Gazipur.
During their meeting, Joj Mia told them that he was implicated in the grenade attack cases. He asked them to meet the two CID officials--Amin and Rashid--at their Malibagh office to discuss about the cases.
Joj Mia was later found innocent and released from jail after around three years.
The grenade attack on an Awami League rally in the capital left 24 people dead and over 300 injured on August 21, 2004. Then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped death.
