Jessore road accident sparks rowdy protest
Four people, including a student of Jessore University of Science & Technology, were killed as a truck rammed a human hauler carrying them on Jessore-Chougachha road at Abdulpur in sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Protesting the accident, the students of the university set the truck on fire and blocked the road for around six hours.
The deceased were Abu Hanif, a third year student of the physical education department of the university; and Anisur Rahman, 22; Khadiza Begum, 45, wife of Habibur Rahman of Chanda-Afra village in Chougachha; and Khairul Islam, 36, the human hauler driver.
Hanif, Anis and Khadiza died instantly and Khairul succumbed to his injuries at Jessore Medical College Hospital, said police.
Our Gaibandha correspondent reports, two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured as their motorcycle skidded off Bamondanga-Naldanga road after hitting the rail gate at a level crossing yesterday morning.
Ferdous Mia, 22, and Khorshed Alam, 20, were killed on the spot and their co-rider Dula Mia, 22, was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a man was killed and five others were injured after a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Fatikchhari upazila headquarters yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was Sada Mia, 28, of Gaibandha.
Of the injured, two took primary treatment while the rest were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, police said.

Our Sherpur correspondent reports, a woman died when her scarf got entangled with the wheel of an easy bike in the district town yesterday.
The dead is Ripa Akhter, 22. She along with her husband Abdul Aziz was going to the district general hospital to see a doctor for her one-year-old son Rihan suffering from fever.
