Jamaat to stage demo for release of Nizami, Sayedee
Jamaat-e-Islami will stage countrywide agitation on May 4 demanding release of its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami and Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
Both the leaders are now facing war crimes charges for their crimes against humanity during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
Jamaat, a key partner in the BNP-led 19-party alliance, will also hold prayers across the country on May 2 to press home their demands.
Jamaat’s acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman announced the two-day programme in a press release issued this evening.
Earlier last week Jamaat held protest processions at all upazilas, districts and metropolitan cities on the same demand.
At least 25 people including three policemen were injured in Natore during the programme.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will come up with Nizami’s verdict any day as the tribunal has completed trial proceedings of the top Jamaat leader on March 24.
The Supreme Court could any day set a date for delivering the verdict on the appeals regarding the capital punishment against Sayedee by the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
