Jamaat man killed in Sirajganj clash
A local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed during a clash with the activists of ruling Awami League in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj last night.
Protesting the death, Jamaat has called a half-day hartal in the upazila for Sunday, Shahidul Islam, a district unit working committee member (Rokon) of the party said.
Alamgir Hossain, 35, of Chardhul Khagrakhali village, was critically injured during the clash that ensued in his village around 10:00pm on Wednesday, quoting Abdul Hai, officer-in-charge (OC) of Belkuchi Police Station, our Pabna correspondent reports.
Hossain, the Jamaat activist, succumbed to his wounds on the way to hospital, the police official said.
Five more people were also injured in the confrontation following an alteration between the supporters of both parties over previous enmity, the OC added.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Other injured were admitted to a local clinic.
