Imam gets chance to clarify comments
HT Imam, an adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has got a chance to explain his position as to why he spoke about using administration in the January 5 national elections and assuring Bangladesh Chhatra League men of favour in BCS viva exams.
On advice from the prime minister, he will hold a press conference tomorrow at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi.
Imam, also a member of the AL advisory council, today tried to meet with the premier but failed, according to sources at Gono Bhaban and the Prime Ministers’ Office.
The adviser talked to BBC Bangla last night and defended his position saying his speech at the BCL programme at Dhaka University has been misinterpreted.
He claimed he is one of the closest persons with the AL as well as the government and the PM has much confidence in him. The PM was not unhappy with him for his comments, he claimed.
He claimed that his speech has totally been misinterpreted intentionally. He said the administration has not been politicised.
He said the prime minister did not tell anything to him rather she advised him to make clear the issues that he spoke. Imam claimed he has that courage to do so.
HT Imam, at a discussion on Wednesday, said if members of BCL, student front of the AL, pass the written test for recruitments in public services, the party leaders would help them with the viva voce.
He also said many pro-AL officials, before the January 5 polls, were inducted into mobile courts and this helped the government hold the election despite the BNP-Jamaat's bid to thwart it. "They [pro-AL officials] stood beside us."
